Five Years, 96 Farm Classes, and a Heart Full of Gratitude

As our last Farm Class of the fall season draws near, I keep thinking about all the people who have helped make these days possible.

Five years. Ninety-six classes. So many children, discoveries, questions, crafts, games, and memories. Every class has been its own little adventure, and I am so grateful that this is something I get to do.

I get to spend time with your children in the fresh farm air, learning about animals, agriculture, and the world around us. I get to see curiosity turn into a question, a discovery, or that wonderful little spark when something suddenly makes sense. Watching that happen never gets old. It is exactly why I put my heart and soul into creating these classes.

But there are so many hands and hearts behind each Farm Class, and I want to take a moment to thank them.

To my mom, Ellen—our beloved Farm Class Nonni—thank you for helping bring my ideas to life and for sharing your time, love, and energy with our farm families. Having you be part of something that means so much to me is a gift all its own.

To our wonderful teen helpers, Charlotte, Miranda, Landon, Beckett, and Hudson: thank you for every small and big thing you do each week. You help turn my sometimes slightly crazy visions for topics, activities, and crafts into something the children can actually experience! Your willingness to help, jump in, and be part of the fun means more than you know. You each have a place in the story of My Learning Farm.

To our guest speakers, thank you for sharing your time, knowledge, animals, and enthusiasm. You give children opportunities to discover things they might never otherwise get to see or try. I am grateful every time someone says, “Yes, I’d love to come.”

And to our families: thank you for making the drive, making the time, and choosing to spend part of your week here. Some of you travel far and wide to visit the farm, and I never take that for granted. You come for class, but along the way, we share conversations, get to know one another, and become friends. That sense of community has become one of the most precious parts of this little business of mine.

To the children—oh, you are the joy in all of this.

Your questions, your excitement, your observations, and your willingness to explore make every bit of preparation worthwhile. I love seeing what catches your attention. Sometimes it is the activity I spent hours planning. Sometimes it is one small treasure on the discovery table that you want to examine long after everyone else has moved on.

That is why I keep collecting things I think you’ll love. Why I test crafts, prepare activities, plan games, book guest speakers, and fill the discovery table with interesting things I find especially for you. As I’m getting ready, I’m already imagining your questions and wondering what you’ll discover.

There is a whole lot of love tucked into those class preparations.

Looking back over five years, I find myself thinking about all the children who have walked onto this farm. Some of those first Farm Class kids are now in high school. That hardly seems possible! What a blessing it has been to share even a small part of their growing-up years.

Ninety-six classes later, I still love doing this. I love the animals, the fresh air, the learning, and the chance to help children find joy in farm life. Most of all, I love the people who gather here.

Thank you for the role you play in bringing my Farm Class dreams to life. Whether you help prepare a craft, share your expertise, bring your child each week, or encourage this little dream of mine, you are part of what makes My Learning Farm so special to me.

As we get ready for our final fall class, my heart is full. What a beautiful thing it is to build something you love—and have a community show up to help it grow.

With so much gratitude, Ms. Sara 💛
